roundtable video quality
-
15 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 22:32Anyone else used the roundtable and found the video quality a bit low res? Is there any tweaks to enhance the image quality coming from the camera to a higher res if possible ? Faster cored PC maybe?

16 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 14:19Microsoft's RoundTable is now Polycom CX5000. Make sure you configure the device using the "Management tool for Administrators (http://www.polycom.com/support/voice/cx/cx5000.html). Also, check your pool's Front End properties -> Video what is the value in the "Maximum video quality" box.

17 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 0:08Thanks Drago,
I have bumped the Video Quality to unlimited and used Polycoms tool but still feel image quality isnt as good as it needs to be for commercial world - shame because its a great idea and although dearer now that the Polycom badge has gone on the camera still a great concept for business -
17 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 2:29Oh well...

I think i might tie 5 of microsofts new HD LifeCams to a stick and build me a mark2 model!
Its iconic and quirky and fun but the 3k price here in the UK is not worth it unless they can do this with HD cameras and seriously improve the touchscreen as a signed on client like their CX700 Tanjay me thinks.
Audio is great however - but a very expensive "spiderphone" conference phone replacement!
Anyone want to swap ther HDX 6000 for my CX5000 ? : ) -
17 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 23:06You just made my day, Robert!

17 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 23:20ผู้ดูแลOnce you go through the OCS MCU all video is CIF quality anyway. The panoramic video is the only exception but to keep from taking too much bandwidth the tradeoff is that the resolution is relatively low. Depending on your use cases it may make sense to include higher res room systems in your deployment as well.

18 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 9:42Thanks Mike - yes we poured out HD lifecams on all our users desktops (and even if not running HD quality they have a superior image quality to any cheap cheap webcams - well worth the extra investment) and in our posh board rooms we have signed up PolyComs HDX range of cameras and yes they really kick ____ - their zoom and quality is scary good - I hate it as I can see my stubble.
Sounds like am stuck with panoramic blockiness. thanks anyway all -
18 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 23:03ผู้ดูแลAre you registering the HDXs to OCS? Also take a look at Polycom's recent press release (http://www.polycom.com/company/news_room/press_releases/2010/20100209_1.html). There is some new functionality coming very soon in the HDX 2.6 release as well as RMX and DMA that will make the integration and ease of use much better.

Thanks
We have taken on two HDX9000 and a HDX6000. There HD quality means our Roundtables will find there way to my desk of bits and bobs that didnt quite work in the real world. Shame - quirky and interesting camera but doesnt cut it in the boardroom!
The integration is better but still not there - however, we do have presence working between HDX and OCS and thats useful to give our OCS users the same sort of experience.

Has anyone by chance seen where there is either a USB or network camera that ties in with OCS and the client so that you can use OCS as a full audio/video/collaboration tool?
Other than these cameras listed below, I was looking for a more professional camera for Enterprise conference room environments. They are fine for desktop but not for what I am looking for.

I have just noticed recently, that this month (2012 january) a new "Polycom CX5000 HD" has replaced the (aging) ordinary Polycom CX5000 in the Lync Comparison Meeting Room Devices Table.pdf at
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16857
Did anybody hear about this new product? Google gave me 0 results.

Yes, this has been publicly announced and will be shipping soon. The cameras has been upgraded to unit capable of supporting HD in 720p, but everything else remains the same.
The HD resolution will only be available in the primary Active Speaker window during Lync Peer-to-Peer calls, and only when the device is connected to a quad-core PC. When participating in Lync conference calls (multi-party on the Lync AVMCU) then only VGA resolution is allowed regardless of the endpoint's capabilities.
See this article for more details on HD video requirements in Lync: http://blog.schertz.name/2011/10/hd-video-in-lync
The panoramic video ribbon will not change as the Real-Time Video spec for this resolution remains unchanged at 1056x144 running between 50-350 Kbps and is not HD-capable.

Thanks Jeff. You seem to be incredibly well informed, as I couldnt find a single hit on google for the "CX 5000 HD".
Not even on Polycom's site. We are in the middle of the process ordering some new roundtables for a customer, but knowing a more powerful device just entered the market, it would be wiser to order those instead of the aging model. Do you know any publically available webpage about this HD model?

Ok, just arrived:
http://www.polycom.com/products/voice/conferencing_solutions/microsoft_optimized_conferencing/cx5000.html
and the new firmware: http://support.polycom.com/PolycomService/support/us/support/voice/cx/cx5000.html
I am still curious if the Polycom firmware is applicable on MS roundtables, or will permanently brick them?

The firmware for each device (as well as the Management Tools) are separate, but you cannot 'brick' a device as it's not possible to load the wrong firmware into the other model.
Take a look at this blog article for more details on the (few) differences in the various models:
