Update Installation Issues

19 มีนาคม 2555 14:40Windows reports an installation failure for an update that has been on my computer for a week. Each time the update attempt is initiated, Windows indicates the update failed and lists error code 8007371B. The update is security related and it's ID is KB2641653. Can you tell me how to either install this update or delete it.

19 มีนาคม 2555 15:29Some updates can't install without a restart or until other patches have been installed. So, to quote Roy from The IT Crowd "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

19 มีนาคม 2555 16:01Thanks for the reply and yes, I have shut the unit completely down several times since the update first appeared on 3/13/2012. I didn't count the installation attempts but I would venture to say there has been at least 20 attempts and failures all of them have error code: 8007371B and refers to the KB2641653 update.

You may become unable to install updates from Windows Update, due to inconsistencies in file data or registry data. By installing the System Update Readiness Tool, you can resolve these inconsistencies and you will be able to install updates from Windows Update. After the System Update Readiness Tool is installed, install updates again from Windows Update.
There are two methods that can be used to download and install the System Update Readiness Tool. If an error occurs while you run Windows Update or if you want to make sure the System Update Readiness Tool is properly installed, try Method 2.

Thanks, Henk. I downloaded and installed the System Update Readiness Tool using Method 2. I opened the log file (%systemroot%\logs\cbs\checksur.persist.log) and it reported "No errors". I rebooted the machine and tried to download and install the KB2641653 update. Once again, the Update installation Failed and reported error code: 8007371B. At this point, I'm open to almost any suggestion.

Hi,
Since you have done a lot to fix it, I suggest you diagnose and hotfix to reset Windows Update Components.
As a test, temporarily disable all security software. (Please enable them after troubleshooting)Once done, check again.
Also please compress the file --- C:\Windows\ windowsupdate.log, upload the file via SkyDrive and post a link here. Then we could analyze the problem deeply through this log.

6 เมษายน 2555 18:16My problem has not been answered even though a moderator has declared it answered. I made several replies which I posted the requested link to my windowsupdate.log but, once submitted, I wasn't able to see them in the forum. I'll try once more and ask for help. The error message " Install failed, error = 0x8007371B / 0x8007371B" is displayed multiple times.
For the error message just have a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
and the %systemroot%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file or in the CBS.persist.log file.
