Answered System Restore points missing

I've noticed over a period of time, (restore points) during the month are ''missing''.

Is this due to the operating system ''deleting'' older restore points,

and (replacing) them with ''newer'' ones ?

Also: can using (system restore) be safe, when facing  (trojan & malware) attacks causing problems ?

This usually happens when the is no enough disk space or you turned off the windows restore. make sure that you have enough disk space at all time.

    Hi,

Firstly, you can see the Disk Space Usage in System Properties and please note: You can adjust the maximum disk space user for system protection. As space fills up, older restore points will be deleted to make room for new ones.

Therefore, the missing of your restore points may be caused by the disk space is full.

Also, you can check if there have related errors in event viewer, please refer to System restore points are missing after Windows 7 reboot for detailed information.

For Trojan and Malware, in my opinion, it is no use running system restore. However, it is recommended to use anti-virus applications or security application to protect your system, such as Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Hope this helps.
