W-7, Virtual Xp-Locked up
-
16 มิถุนายน 2554 21:17I was working in XP mode and minimized to do something in W-7. When I went back to XP, it was loked up. The control-alt-del wouldn't work. I was able to close it out and restarted the virtual machine several times to no avail. I rebooted the computer several times. Nothing. I shut down, unplugged the computer, then restarted. Nothing. This virtual stuff is frustrating.

When that happens, delete the "Windows XP Mode.vsv" file in the folderC:\users\[your user name]\appdata\microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\VirtualMachines.That should then allow XP Mode to start correctly.

This morning, I tried to open xp. It was still locked up. When I tried to close, I selected shut down. I got a window saying it was already shutting down, please wait. It wouldn't shut down. Then I happened to see the the other option, 'turn off'. I did that, and when I tried xp again, it worked.
Now, I also tried your suggestion, there is no folder in C:\users\(my name)\appdata\microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Wirtual Machines. It goes as far as 'my name'. Nothing under my name like appdata. If I need this, how do I get it?

No need too really, but you have to change the folder settings to showhidden files, and show extensions of known files for that to show.Since you found the way to power off the VM, that's all you need asthat's what deleting the .vsv basically does.
