Failed to download Excel Services chart

    Soru

  • I can't seem to get any charts to work in Excel Services, and I can't figure out why.  I found this forum posting:  http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointexcel/thread/208d649b-31a9-4d13-8ee3-3984fb92bb85, and after going through and trying every option that was suggested, it still doesn't work.

I have tried all kinds of different charts, from pie to bar to line, both 2d and 3d, as well as pivot charts, and none have worked.  I tried creating a new workbook, with a VERY basic 3 line data element, created a chart of of it, (I would assume it is WELL below the 20mb limit I set), and it still doesn't work :-(.  So far as I know it's never worked, and these are the first attempts to use excel services to display a chart.  We are on SP2007, SP 2.

If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

    Thanks.

    Ted

P.S.  I went to the excel services trusted locations, basically bumped up every setting from the default maximum, and that didn't help anything either.

  • Hi Ted,

Please try the steps in the following link to check whether it works:
    http://www.codeproject.com/KB/sharepoint/DisplayingCharts.aspx

The excel document library for storing Excel workbooks needs to be in the trusted file location, please check whether it is through Shared Services ->Trusted File Locations.

If it persists, please provide more information about the error message that cannot display the chart.

    Thanks,
    Qiao Wei

  • I just created a new workbook using the above link as a guide, and unfortunately i still get the exact same error message:  "Failed to download Excel Services chart".  I can see the data and all that, but the chart refuses to load.

It is listed in the Trusted Files locations as a Sharepoint page, and it has Trust Children checked.  I trusted the site, and assumed that if I trusted the children that would cover all of the libraries under it, (correct?).

It loads the page, but just not the chart, so I assume that the trusted file location thing is working.

  • Hi Ted,

    Thanks for posting back.

I cannot reproduce your issue, please make sure the trusted file location is correct, format: http://servername/sitesname/excellibraryname/

Did you receive the error message when publishing the chart or add Excel Web Access web part?

If follow steps in the link get the error message, please check the ULS log and provide for more information about the error message in the log file:
    The ULS log is in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\LOGS

    Thanks,
    Qiao Wei

  • Hi Syd,

From the error message you provide,” The data culture en-AU was requested, and it is not fully supported because its language pack is not installed. Some features will not be available”, it says that the language pack needs to be installed.

Please check whether the language pack is installed or not, for more information, please refer to:

    Thanks,

  • Got the culprit, its the IIS static and dynamic compression. I have few outbound rules in IIS so i have disabled static and dynamic compression, moment i enabled compression it worked.

since the excel chat is streamed a image/png, its normally compressed and send to the browser, but having compression turned on giving me grief for my outbound rules.

what i am guessing is, if i turn off the compression so how its not sending/streaming the image correctly to be reassembled by the browser which kind of proved by earlier message "image truncated or corrupted" reported by firefox.

Now how can we make the excel chat service image streamed across correctly without having compression turned on ?

    Thanks

    Syd
