Steps required for Mac users post transition
-
20 Ocak 2012 Cuma 00:19I haven't seen much in the FAQs about what to expect for Mac users during the transition. Does anyone know if Mac users will need to delete their accounts in Outlook 2011 and re-add following the transition or will a simple restart of Outlook do the trick if the cname for auto discover is correct?Has anyone been through the transition with Macs? Given the scant details for Mac users (other than system requirements), I'm left wondering whether this is going to be refreshingly simple for Mac users or the wild west. Thanks,Stephen

Thanks, but I'd read that before and it approaches the subject as if the Mac users are brand new users. What I'd like to know is what happens for Mac users transitioning from BPOS to 365. On the Windows side, the FAQ is pretty clear about Windows users needing to install a bit of software and then quit/relaunch Outlook after the migration is complete. Seems pretty easy. On the Mac side, there's no software to install (only make sure that Office 2011 is up to date). But what happens when the transition is complete? Do I need to remove all the BPOS accounts ans re-add or is it as magic as quit and relaunch like on the Windows side (assuming the auto discover cname record is in place)?
Any Mac users out there who have been through the BPOS to 365 transition care to weigh in? Microsoft 365 support doesn't seem to know either after an hour and half call with them yesterday.
Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
we haven´t been through the transition process with our Mac yet. But for my understanding, it must be the same for Office 2011. If you are first :-) tell me

Realistically, the connection should be autodetected via AutoDiscover for Outlook 2011/Entourage 2008 WSE (unless you have disabled AutoDiscover on your Macs due to previous issues some customers experienced with being redirected to the wrong Virtual Directory). This occurs the same for Outlook 2007/2010, so I wouldn't expect a difference with the Mac variants since they rely on AutoDiscover as well.
As for proof, I don't have it since I manually transitioned myself quite some time ago.

Hi Stephen, I have a Mac Book Pro that I test with, so maybe I can help:
On the Mac side, there's no software to install (only make sure that Office 2011 is up to date). But what happens when the transition is complete? Do I need to remove all the BPOS accounts ans re-add or is it as magic as quit and relaunch like on the Windows side (assuming the auto discover cname record is in place)?Ryanph - The Transition WILL move all your BPOS tenant users, contacts, groups and custom domains into Office 365. When the Transition is done, all your online objects will be in the EXACT same state as in BPOS HOWEVER, your users will have an additional email, that of the new default domain, such as contoso.onmicrosoft.com. So if you have a custom domain of contoso.com, each of your suers will have the following:
user@contoso.com - Custom domain
user@contoso.microsoftonline.com - BPOS
user@contoso.onmicrosoft.com - Office 365
Any Mac users out there who have been through the BPOS to 365 transition care to weigh in? Microsoft 365 support doesn't seem to know either after an hour and half call with them yesterday.
Ryanph - So I have gone through 3 Transitions so far and I use my Laptop (PC), my MacBook Pro laptop and my iPad to test.
On my PC machines, I made sure that my Autodiscover.contoso.com DNS record pointed to autodiscover.outlook.com. When I logged into Outlook on Monday, the Sign-In Client recognized that I had moved and told my machine to REMOVE any references to BPOS Exchange, via machine registry files. So these records were removed and Outlook stated to close and restart. now it queries DNS to find this record and gets directed to autodiscover.Outlook.com, redirects me to my mail server, authenticates and logs me in.
The above is also what is done for the Mac machines, with a few differences due to the way they work. Ultimately as long as you have Office 2011 or Entourage 2008 Exchange Web Services (EWS), it WILL find the autodiscover record and properly connect! I checked my iPad --> Mail and found that it had already picked up the DNS record change and logged me in. This is because the acount I used in BPOS was moved to 365 with the SAME credentials, which were used in my iPad configuration, so it worked great!
Anyway, I have my Mac Book right here, please let me know if this doesn't help and maybe I can post some screenshots to showcase what I am discussing above!
