  • I am having the exact same issue in my environment using the web anayltics web part, however web anayltic data apears fine going through site settings > site web anayltics reports.

    Any ideas to fix this would be great.

  • Hi,

    What build is your farm on?

    How many site collections do you have?

    Do you know the size of the following databases?  Are they in a consistent state?

    WebAnalyticsServiceApplication_StagingDB

    WebAnalyticsServiceApplication_ReportingDb

    If you were to create a brand new web application and site collection in it then hit it a few times.  Does the web part work correctly there?

    If it does can you export that web part and import into a nonworking site?  What is the behavior?  Does issue still reproduce?

    What is the behavior of removing the Web Analytics service application and recreating it (this will reset the data)?  Do you still get duplicates?

    In the ULS logs are you getting any error messages pertaining to Web Analytics during its processing time?

  • Hello Savoeurn,

    >What build is your farm on?
    14.0.6029.1000

    >How many site collections do you have?
    Do you mean across our entire Sharepoint Installation, or just in the site in question?
    We have 6 web applications
    In the Site in Question, we have 8 collections, but only 1 is used and active "/"

    >Do you know the size of the following databases?  Are they in a consistent state?
    >WebAnalyticsServiceApplication_StagingDB
    26,816KB, Yes

    >WebAnalyticsServiceApplication_ReportingDb
    22,720KB Yes

    >If you were to create a brand new web application and site collection in it then hit it a few times.  Does the web part work correctly there?
    Waiting on refreshed data.

    >If it does can you export that web part and import into a nonworking site?  What is the behavior?  Does issue still reproduce?

    >What is the behavior of removing the Web Analytics service application and recreating it (this will reset the data)?  Do you still get duplicates?
    As the previous poster mentioned, if I view the web analytics via Central Admin, Web Analytics Reports, there are no duplicate pages.
    The duplicates only appear in the web part.

    >In the ULS logs are you getting any error messages pertaining to Web Analytics during its processing time?
    No errors in the ULS logs

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the info.  Can you also do an export of this webpart.  Then open the .DWP file with notepad and post the contents. This will be just a quick comparison to ensure there was no modification to it.

    We are probably going to need to dig a little deeper so you will you also have to do a WCF trace (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733025(v=vs.85).aspx) in Verbose to see what messages are being passed to the WebAnalyticsService.svc.  The method we need to watch is “GetData”.  You can see this call in the ULS, but the ULS does not capture the messages it sends across. You will also see a search request going to the search service application as well which runs “Execute”.  A WCF trace on this would also be needed to see what is passed across.  It would be interesting to see what is being returned back to the webpart.  This should shed some light onto why the webpart is returning duplicates.

    There are some risks doing this if trace if you set it up incorrectly. If you are unsure how to do it, you may want to consider opening a paid support ticket so an engineer can guide you on configuring this and then analyze the data.

  • Hi,

    Below is the content of the exported DWP.

    I have attempted to do the WCF trace, however no logs are being generated.  Can you tell me the location of the web.config files I need to modify?

    Thanks.

  • Also last mention of this, if you are unsure how to do this please consider opening a paid support ticket.  You can break the farm easily if you do this incorrectly.

    I did a comparision of your webpart vs an out of box copy of it.  Yours does not match.

    Here is what an out of the box one looks like:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <WebPart xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebPart/v2">
      <Title>Web Analytics Web Part</Title>
      <FrameType>Default</FrameType>
      <Description>Displays the most viewed content, most frequent search queries from a site, or most frequent search queries from a search center.</Description>
      <IsIncluded>true</IsIncluded>
      <ZoneID>Main</ZoneID>
      <PartOrder>0</PartOrder>
      <FrameState>Normal</FrameState>
      <Height />
      <Width />
      <AllowRemove>true</AllowRemove>
      <AllowZoneChange>true</AllowZoneChange>
      <AllowMinimize>true</AllowMinimize>
      <AllowConnect>true</AllowConnect>
      <AllowEdit>true</AllowEdit>
      <AllowHide>true</AllowHide>
      <IsVisible>true</IsVisible>
      <DetailLink />
      <HelpLink />
      <HelpMode>Modeless</HelpMode>
      <Dir>Default</Dir>
      <PartImageSmall />
      <MissingAssembly>Cannot import this Web Part.</MissingAssembly>
      <PartImageLarge />
      <IsIncludedFilter />
      <Assembly>Microsoft.Office.Server.WebAnalytics.UI, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c</Assembly>
      <TypeName>Microsoft.Office.Server.WebAnalytics.Reporting.WhatsPopularWebPart</TypeName>
      <SearchScope xmlns="Microsoft.Office.Server.WebAnalytics.Reporting">All Sites</SearchScope>
      <SiteScope xmlns="Microsoft.Office.Server.WebAnalytics.Reporting">ThisSiteAndBelow</SiteScope>
      <ItemFilter xmlns="Microsoft.Office.Server.WebAnalytics.Reporting" />
      <ShowFrequency xmlns="Microsoft.Office.Server.WebAnalytics.Reporting">true</ShowFrequency>
      <ShowPopularityRank xmlns="Microsoft.Office.Server.WebAnalytics.Reporting">true</ShowPopularityRank>

    What happens if you modify this part:

      <ItemFilter xmlns="Microsoft.Office.Server.WebAnalytics.Reporting">allitems; pehandbookimages;</ItemFilter>

    Remove the "allitems" piece.

  • Hi All,

    is the problem solved?

    What could also be possible, that the search is wrong configured an displayes double results and because of that also the analytics.

    best regards.
