VAMT MAK key reuse

We are using VAMT 2.0 to track the MAK keys for our Office 2010 suite. Not all the equipment has been updated to the 2010 version of Office yet and we have a mixture of old and relatively new equipment. One of the PCs which had been updated to Office 2010 crashed. I don't want to lose the use of that MAK key since every license counts to our non-profit agency (and with our mix of equipment , it'll probably happen again).
How to I get the use of that key again? I could rename the replacement PC with the same name as the PC that crashed but didn't know if that would allow the copy of Office on the new harddrive to be considered a valid activated copy.

Typically your MAK key will have more activations associated with it than the number of licenses you've purchased, for situations such as these. Every time you MAK activate, you will use up another activation. However, if your old computer crashed, and all you're doing is reformatting and reinstalling everything, then you should use proxy activation via VAMT. This will allow you to reactivate on the same hardware without using up an activation. Search for "proxy activation" in the VAMT 2.0 help file. If you replace a computer, just set up your new computer, enter the same MAK key, and activate as usual. Try to enter the MAK key and activate first. Only if you get the error message that the number of activations has run out, then you will need to call Microsoft support and tell them that you've gotten rid of old computers and now you're using new computers. They'll either raise the number of activations associated with your current key or give you a new one.

WE have Just had our new server fitted. The engineer seems to have used the licence keys on the initial setup, but now we have renamed everything it seems have reused the keys again. Is this a possibility? We have computers in the VAMT list that are not physically there. Is it just a case of contacting microsoft to extend the use of our keys?Typically your MAK key will have more activations associated with it than the number of licenses you've purchased, for situations such as these. Hi Rob2418,
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "new server fitted" and "renamed everything" and "reused the keys again"? Do you mean your KMShost server?
VAMT retains a saved list of clients. VAMT can be set to "discover" client computers within your network. Is this what you mean?
Regardless, you can enter your MAK product key into VAMT (or it may be retained there), and you can "check" the remaining activations available on the product key. You can also check this by logging on to the MS VLSC website. If you need more activations, you can contact MS to request additional activations be provided.

We have around 100 computers that we reinstall every week due to educational purposes. We have a Clean set of installation for every course. However, I have on several occations tried this Proxy activation and Apply Confirmation ID. It seems to Count down one activation for every time anyway? The computer is using same name and hardware as last time.
I just tried VAMT 3.0 that has been released, I
1. Installed Product key (for Windows 8)
2. Activate -> Proxy Activate... -> Acquire and save Confirmation ID only
- Now it counted down the activations from 500 to 499, which is expected since the VAMT uses the key. Win8 still not activated).3. Activate -> Apply confirmation ID -> Current Credentials
- Windows 8 now activated. However, now the MAK Count is down to 498.What did I do wrong? I'm getting the same behaiviour with Windows 7 and VAMT 2.0.
