2.96 gb Usable Out of 8 gb

I have a Dell XPS l502x and I wanted to upgrade my RAM. So I bought some Kingston RAM from Amazon. When I installed it the computer booted up perfectly and showed that 8 gb was installed but it had (2.96 usable) next to it. I have a 64x computer running windows Home Premium so I don't know what the problem is.

I think you have x86 preinstalled, ask Dell for x64 disks

Hi,
Please double check that you have installed the Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. Generally speaking, Windows 7 64 bit is more than 3GB usable out of 8GB RAM.
Do you have installed lots of programs? I suggest you have a clean boot and check it again.

one thing to check is that address remapping is enabled, desktops have the option but portables usually do not but have it enabled
