Client Won't Join WSUS Server (Code 8024400A)

I have today created a new WSUS server to replace our old Windows Server 2003 box. I have set it all up and changed the group policy to point to the new server. All of the computer have appeared in the console. I am having trouble with one (mine). It is a Windows 7 Professional box. If you go through Windows Update it errors with error 8024400A. I have done gpupdate and wuauclt /detectnow. I have also just installed SP1 but it has not helped. Here is the last WindowsUpdate.log:

Typically the 0x8024400a error is rarely encountered, but it means:SOAP client failed to parse the response from the server.
Since it is just a client individual issue,that tends to rule out a server-side issue, I would like to refer to the corrupted client-side datastore. Pls try to Stop service; delete SoftwareDistribution folder; start service. or, try to reinstall Windows Update Agent.
If not works,I am inclined to refer to this issue as a duplicate SusClientID.I once encountered this issue like this before. The necessary procedure is documented in KB903262.

Thanks for this. It has sorted out all of the clients that were reporting but not downloading the updates. Unfortunately it didn't resolve the issue on my PC. I have tried reinstalling the Windows Update Agent by running WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe which unpacks and then errors with Windows Update Agent Installer encountered unrecoverable error. I have also tried stoppingthe service and deleting the software distribution folder. This also did not work. Here is the latest log:

This issue appears to be related to the recent WSUS SP in 2012-June.
This machine is a Win7SP1 machine running the v7.5 WUAgent, and KB2720211 has not been applied to the WSUS server (as evidenced by the fact that the selfupdate check still sees the WSUS3SP2 v7.4 WUAgent as the current required version -- so I really don't understand where this conclusion is coming from.
What I do see is a non-standard proxy configuration -- that quite often causes problems with WUAgents talking to WSUS:

and a rarely seen server-side error, which has already been partially resolved -- at least on some systems:

It's not a duplicate SusClientID issue, as the WUAgent did generate a new one -- although it is very interesting that one did not exist previously.

So my approach at this point would be to find a way to bypass the proxy server and see if the client can talk directly to the WSUS server.

I have been troubleshooting this particular WSUS client issue for more than a week. I've documented much of those results here:

While it is certainly possible that a defective installation of KB2720211 could manifest in the form of a client-side 0x8024400A error code - my point was that it is definitively NOT the case in this instance, since we can plainly see the client conducting a selfupdate check,

and the WSUS server is still reporting the v7.4 WUAgent as the current package -- which tells us that the WSUS server is still a WSUS3SP2 (v3.2.7600.226) server.
But what's even more intriguing is that it would seem that Service Pack 1 was just installed on this machine on the morning of the 19th.
Here we see the WUAgent is still at v7.2

and TWO minutes later!!! The machine is running the WUAgent v7.5 -- which can only be acquired by installing Service Pack 1.

So, in reality, there are a lot of funky things going on with this client. The WUAgent v7.2 suggests the machine hasn't been patched since Summer 2008 (or it was a client of Configuration Manager or some other non-Microsoft patching software) -- but the only things that the WUAgent v7.5 can be installed onto weren't delivered to the world until Fall 2009! (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2).
Win7/Win2008R2 *RTM* shipped with a WUAgent v7.3! (So how did this client get the v7.2 WUAgent?)
