    I tried to uninstall WSUS 3 from a 2003 server, but it looks like it did not go through.   Now it  is retrying the same update and failing every night.  I tried disabling the update service and still it goes through the motion.    Is there a process to physically remove all WSUS components and turn off the updates?  This is also a DC (I know its a bad setup, I inherited)  it is also a dhcp server;<   I just want to move all roles off it and gracefully demote.   I am stuck though while it is unstable like this  Any advice most appreciated

    Repeating error events every night

    event 1024 Msiinstaller  3.0 SP2 - Update 'Hotfix for Widows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 (KB2720211)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Windows Installer can create logs to help troubleshoot issues with installing software packages. Use the following

    event 11722 msiinstaller 

    Product: Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action ExSignDb, location: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\MSI33CA.tmp, command: -S ADMINSERVER1\MICROSOFT##SSEE -i "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Database\WSUSSignDb.sql" -l "C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\MWusCa.log"

    By default, the Windows Update client records all transaction information to the following log file:

    %windir%\Windowsupdate.log

    If you receive an error message on the Microsoft Windows Update Web site or from the Automatic Updates service, you can use the information that is included in the Windowsupdate.log log file to troubleshoot the issue.

    And let me your findings.

    Hello

    I will check the mentioned logs, but the 2 above errors come up every day just before the attempt to update/reboot even with update service disabled.    Control panel add/remove does not show WSUS as I did run uninstall via that method.   Something is left behind that is still trying to force an erroneous update and I am just trying to stop all updates /reboots.

    Actually that article is fatally incomplete, and only really works on a perfectly functioning WSUS server. Since the O.P. already has a failed uninstallation -- that article is totally useless.

    The better source for uninstalling WSUS from a dysfunctional server is the Sticky Post How to Uninstall WSUS found at the top of this forum listing.
