Windows7 Networking

    Frage

  • Hi,

Problem with windows 7 network location and adapters: Normally I use my laptop on docking station --> LAN cable in use and office LAN available. While taking laptop off the docking station, switching wlan -adapter on and trying to use our office wlan, windows cannot connect to wlan without rebooting the whole machine. Same as if have used wlan to connecting office LAN and get back to my desk, put laptop back to docking station and try to use LAN adapter, only way is to reboot whole laptop.

    Any reason for this?

I'm using both Lenovo's newest models or HP's and lan/wlan switching is enabled from the BIOS, but no help Lenovo's access connection tells me that DHCP server is not available while switching lan to wlan

    Hi,

To troubleshoot the issue, please try the following steps.

    1. Upgrade the NIC driver to the latest driver.

    2. After switching to the LAN from WLAN, please disable LAN adapter and re-enable it for a test. Can you obtain IP address?

    3. Also, you can try a IP Release/Renew to check the result.

    Thanks,

    Novak

  • you should be looking at your setup as this is not a "win 7" issue.

I have netbooks which switch between wired / wireless many times a day without issues.

If disable and then reenable the wifi does it pick up an IP??

Have you tested using more than the one access point??? Does the AP support windows 7?? (disable IP6 on the nics and test)

  • I think this is win7 issue because with xp it works fine.

We have two access points which should support win7 (hp wireless access point 420) . It doesn't matter where you try this (mean different APs)

IP6 is disabled because that was something which I think cause the problem.

If i change LAN to WLan, wifi does not pick up IP at all and vs, wifi connected after boot -> fine, but when disabling wifi and switch to LAN --> no ip picked up...... and this has for several other users in our company
