Windows 7, Printer/USB Port Configuration Error

    Question

  • I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 6 4bit. I have installed via USB a Brother HL-5170DN Series Printer. The first printer that is loaded shows as off line and will not wake up. The second printer shows on line always and prints fine. My problem is that when I try to add the printer as a network printer from my linksys router, it appears as off line. I saw many comments to change the SMPT settings on the printer, however when I open up the local printer and try and configure the USB port I get an error "An error occured during port configuration. This operation is not supported".

I need to get this printer connected to the router. Can anybody help?

  • I suggest you temporary disable firewall and check the result.

If the issue persists, you may download the manual from the following website and see if any changes are required.
