Win XP - problem with windows update

    Question

  • Tried all the FixIts and tips I can find but no luck updating my PC.  Please help with ideas... other than reformat.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

Download size (total): 0 KB *
Estimated time at your connection speed: 0 minutes *
    (*Downloaded; ready to install)

    High-priority updates
This update can have system-wide effects or address more than one problem. It must be installed separately from other updates.
We recommend you install it and then return to our home page to check if your computer needs other high-priority updates.

Then tried FixIt and by hand sequence in:

    https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&c1=509&gprid=3223&&st=1&wfxredirect=1&sd=gn

    but error with
    regsvr32.exe mshtml.dll
mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered.

LoadLibrary("wucltux.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.
LoadLibrary("wuwebv.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.

    netsh reset winsock
The following command was not found: reset winsock

  • Try downloading the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 installer from the following address

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=22

(scroll to "Full Package" near the bottom of the page to donwload the full package installer rather than the web installer) and running it as Administrator; reboot your system after completing the installation.

    Bye.

  • Hi,

To fix the probem of KB951847, we need to remove all versions of .NET Framework in the system and install .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package) directly.

After installing NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package), KB951847 is no longer needed and will not be offered.

    Regards

    Kevin
