  • Hi,

Would you please let me know which Windows XP theme you are looking for? By default, the Luna theme is preinstalled on Windows XP Home / Professional. The Windows XP theme been removed entirely in Windows Vista and later version in favor of Windows Aero.

Please understand there is no official Windows XP theme for Windows 7. You could download third party theme, the distributer also will provide the steps to use the theme.

  • Also note that if you use any theme other than Aero, your desktop will no longer provide live previews or other special enhancements, nor will your desktop environment be rendered by your graphics card: your primary processor will fall back to old GDI-mode graphics and your main processor will have to work for both aplications and for graphics (there is no hardware graphics acceleration with GDI in Windows Vista or 7).  Basically this means that, without Aero themes, your computer will be slower by a significant margin, and be more likely to have screen artifacts (black blocks or lines when you drag windows around) and even be more likely to experience application hangs and crashes.

  • I have the same issue.  I'm using Plus! Mystery theme on XP (probably from 95 originally).

I want to convert it to 7 so I can feel at home.

    Any ideas ?

  • You really don't have a clue of what you are talking about don't you...

  • No, it's completely true.  Hardware graphics accelleration is not used - and the 1980s GDI technology instead - when you disable Aero.  For example, have you ever moved a window quickly and see the duplicates (not unlike the cards falling after winning a game of solitaire?)  That's because the CPU cannot clear the GDI buffer and redraw what was supposed to be under that window.  With Aero, the entire desktop are simply objects with textures painted on by the GPU -- you move a window, the program under it never has to re-supply the bitmap for what is now visible -- nor does the CPU even query it.  Rendering in your video card can speed up a system as much as 8 fold, even older systems with slower single-core CPU's, because that CPU can now be offloaded the graphics-related tasks.  Try it out.  Or visit MSDN.microsoft.com for a more in-depth explanation of how this is achieved.
