  • Hi,

    Thank you for posting here.

    Above all, I would appreciate for your help in clarifying the following questions:

    1. Would you please let me know whether the computers are in a Workgroup or a Domain?

    2. What's the brand or model of the printer you would like to share?

    At this stage, I suggest we temporary disable all third party Firewall and antivirus program, and then perform the following steps.

    Temporary disable Windows Firewall service

    =========================

    1. Click "Start", go to run, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and press Enter.

    Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

    2. Right click the "Windows Firewall" service and choose Properties.

    3. Click "Startup type" option and click "Disabled".

    4. Click OK and share the printer again.

    If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps to verify service.

    Verify Network settings

    =========================

    1. Click start and click Control Panel.

    2. Double click Network and Sharing Center.

    3. Select "Change advanced sharing settings" option in the right panel.

    4. Please turn on "Network discovery" and "File and printer sharing".

    What's the result?

    Thanks,

    Novak

  • Also forgot to mention that I have tried to enable the firewall since it is saying it is disabled and I can't get that to work.  Tried the KB article for microsoft "some services don't start in windows vista".  Also tried changing the name of the printer like stated in some other articles.  That didn't work either.  The only thing I am running that may affect the firewall is Landesk client version 8.80.2.6.

    Thanks

  • Hello!
    I also have to deal with this Problem. Same error message.

    At first the answers to the questions:
    1.: The Computer is in a Workgroup.
    2.: The Printer is a Canon IP4200

    I set the settings you told, but it still doesn't work.

    My firewall and antivirus program (Comodo Internet Security) was also turned off without any other result.

    I hope to find a solution soon.

    Thanks,
    Gigelfisch

  • I believe this is a bug in Win7. The printer sharing does not work if windows firewall is disabled.

    If I enable it, I can share the printer without problems. After changing the appropriate setting the firewall can be disabled again.

    I'm using a third party firewall, so there is no point in leaving the windows firewall activated.
