    Question

  •

    Hello.

I'm running Windows vista ultimate SP1, and since two days the automatic updates aren't working anymore, I get this error : "WindowsUpdate_80070424" "WindowsUpdate_dt000".

I've checked the BITS service, it's running, I've also re-registered it (regsvr32 wuaueng.dll with administrator rights) , and it doesn't change a lot (only the notification in the status bar disapear ... until windows tries for the next time the automatic update).

I don't see any error related to this event in the event viewer, and according the windows update log, the last one that worked was an update for windows defender, 10 days ago, the KB915597.

I've also tested a comand file with these commands :

    net stop cryptsvc
    net stop wuauserv

    net start wuauserv

It doesn't fix the problem, the only result is loosing the history of windows updates.

    Anyone has an idea ?

  • Hi Buck

To save yourself some time, I recommend using the Windows Update No-Charge support that is currently being offered.

He already did that as did I too.

I'm running Windows Vista Enterprise 64 bit SP1.It's been about two months (or more) since the automatic updates just stopped working. I get the same old error : "WindowsUpdate_80070424" "WindowsUpdate_dt000". What is strange is that the defender signatures update just fine.

I've checked all the services suggested (BITS, etc.) and they are all running. I've also re-registered it and many other DLLs (regsvr32 wuaueng.dll, etc. all with administrator rights) , and it doesn't change anything. I also renamed directories (wipped out my update history) and many other suggestions that have failed. I may have to contact MS or reload (or just go to windows 7). I thought this would be an easy fix but I have been working on it on and off for quite some time.

Looks like SP 2 is out so I'll put that on and see if it does anything for me.
