This is a Windows 7 forum, not Vista.
A set of generic drivers for the HP 12xx series is included in both Windows 7 and Vista (and XP for that matter). Add your printer and when it asks for a driver pick any of the HP LaserJet 12xx or 13xx drivers that suit your needs. The 11xx drivers will work too, but you'll lose some features.

Set up the printer's hardware for installation. Plug the LaserJet 1200 power adapter into the back of the printing device itself and into your nearest power outlet. Plug the HP LaserJet 1200 USB adapter into the printer.
Insert the HP LaserJet1200 installation disc into your computer's CD-ROM drive. The computer will begin to run the disc for the installation process.
Accept the terms of the HP Software License Agreement. This will be the HP Printing Setup Wizard's introductory screen. Click "Yes" at the bottom of the screen to accept the terms and proceed to the Installation Mode screen.
Choose your installation mode. Select the "Traditional Mode" by clicking on its radio button to conduct the recommended setup and installation mode. Click "Install" to finalize your decision and advance to the next installation screen.
When prompted, connect the HP LaserJet 1200 USB adapter one of your computer's USB ports. The installation wizard then will automatically begin to search for the connection.
Click on the "Finish" action at the bottom of the printer setup screen to install the printer's files and components to your computer's hard drive. The progress of the installation will appear on your screen. Once this window disappears, the installation wizard will display a notification that the installation has been completed successfully.
