  • 80070005 means "Access is Denied". Let's check if current user has administrator permission and if it has full permission of the system.

Detailed steps please refer following KB:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/968003/

The steps on the KB can also be performed on Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems.

  • Steps you can try:

    1.  First, to restore updates you can stop the Windows update service and move or delete this folder: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore

    2. Third party software can alter the permission level of folders and registry keys. You may try enabling updates by taking ownership and granting full permission of the

"C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" folder and all of it's contents.

Also take ownership and full grant full permission of this registry key and all of it's subkeys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate

3: Additionally, check to see that windows is activated. Open system properties you should see a genuine indicator under "windows activation".

  • Hi, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Issue is the same as tad's41073. tried all of the above steps(including following the link and getting subinacl.

Upon trying to run the reset.cmd(or reset.bat as advised in other threads) i get the caskading messages that subinacl isn't recognized as an ex or internal commmand, programm or batch file.

After trying Ronnie's solution system paused for so long i thought it'd actually find updates for me) But no - same message.

Anything info you want me to send you to try and resolve this issue ?

P.S. I realise the thread is old, but so are all threads on this matter i could find, i had to pick something )
