    md %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old

    xcopy %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old /s

    d. Delete all contents of the catroot2 folder, but do not delete the catroot2 folder.

    C:\Windows\System32\catroot2

    e. Type the following command, and then press Enter:

    net start cryptsvc

    f. Exit the Command Prompt window.

Step 2: To rename catroot2 folder follow these steps.

Windows Update related components are corrupt. You may repair the system with In-place Upgrade.

  • I've already come across that article but the System update readiness tool is not available for windows 8 , I've tried SFC /scannow and didn't get any error and this is my 4th clean install of windows 8 and this error keeps repeating. I've installed MS office 2007 with all updates , I think MS Office updates may be the problem here .

    Thanks though .
