Why does my dell laptop shut down abruptly after a windows update

    Question

  • Hi team,

This problem started after I updated my windows7 with the latest updates. Now once the update was complete I was asked to reboot. Which was completed, however when the laptop started up it simply shut down. The windows restore tells me that there is a error in restoring the laptop and then it does not allow the laptop to reboot for another 30 min. I am sure this started a week ago with the latest updates from windows as well as the mcaffe antivirus software. I have a i7-Q720 processor, 4GB DDR3, 1GB ATI Raedon. If the windows7 is only supposed to work for a year then it is done. I bought my laptop in Sep 2010. Hope you can come with a solution for this issue.

  • Hi,

Please logon Safe Mode to see if the same issue occurs.

Update drivers and BIOS to the latest version also. If the issue persists, you may try to perform system restore with WinRE:

      1) Restart PC

      2) Press “F8” and select “Repair Your computer”

      3) choose System Restore.

  • I have the same exact laptop. Works fine if i leave the adaptor plugged in. But shuts down randomly on battery.

Checked System Restore and i only have 1 restore option available (even with ''Show more restore points'' checked)

Its an automatic restore point created on the day of posting this message. I didnt even install anything.

    Windows is a joke
