ntldr is missing

    Question

  • Hi,
I can install Windows 7 32bit from a fresh install without any problem.
I thought I would give Windows 64bit a go but, at every attempt at a fresh install I keep getting ntldr is missing press cntrl+alt+del to restart, and so the loop continues. But, I can go back to the 32bit without a hitch.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Answers

  • After the failed 64bit installation I reformat the drive and then reinstall the 32bit.

Finally managed to install the 64bit version though, by replacing my WDC 160gb with a new Hitachi 250gb HDD. The ntldr error never occurred with the new drive.

  • Have you tried to format the hard disk during the setup? Please be aware that all data will be deleted during the format process of the hard disk.

  • How are you able to "go back to the 32bit without a hitch" if you've reformatted the disk prior to the 64-bit installation?

Are you also reinstalling the 32-bit after each 64-bit installation failure?
