Is Office 97 Compatible with Windows 7?

    Question

  • On Windows 7's Compatibility Center, the status for Office 97 Professional is "Action Recommended".

Does this mean that Office 97 will not work on Windows 7?

Or is it just too old and Microsoft wants you to upgrade?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Have you tried to run it in compatibility mode?

Right click the outlook shortcut and select properties
    Select compatibility tab
Check run this porgram in compatibility mode for:
And choose an os its known to work on.

If this still doesnt work, try right clicking on the outlook shortcut and select "run as administrator"

  • Office 97, 2000 and XP are not compatible with Windows 7.

Only Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 work fine under Windows 7.

Office 97 is known to break the UAC settings dialog.

You should use Office 97 in the XP Mode:

Despite of being not compatible Office 97 (at least Access 97) works
fine under Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) without any issues. You just
have to tweak around to install it under Win 7 64-bit as it has an
16-bit installer. And if you install Office 97 with UAC off, I have not
found any problem in reapplying whatever settings of UAC you want
    afterwards.

  • Can be done, but be aware it freezes the UAC slider. There is however a fix out there for this which needs running each time you install or uninstall any part of Office 97 and I would recommend downloading it before installing your software for Office 97. As of now, no compatibility issues.

    Click on Start

Goto Run – Type msconfig (click Ok)

In General tab - tick - Selective startup

    Untick - Load startup items

    Click - OK

    Restart Computer

    Install software.

    Go back to msconfig

    Tick – Normal startup

    Click OK

    Restart Computer

    Run UAC Fix.

    All done.

Worked for me, hope it works for you.
