Problems with DirectX while running The Longest Journey (DirectX 7 game)

    Question

  • I've installed The Longest Journey with the desire to play it, and, as with my other computer, I've set the Compability to 'Windows XP (with Service Pack 2)'. Everytime I turn the game on, it gives me an error:

    D:\ra\engine03\DX_Module\primarysurface.cpp 868.

    Check failed:Unrecognised error value.

The game itself is installed in: D:\TLJ\The Longest Journey

I have been able to run it on my other computer. (it has Win7 as well)

    try that.

if that doesn't work, try and run the game out of the .exe in the D:\TLJ\The Longest Journey folder

  • DirectX 11 is included with Windows 7. It's supposed to included components for older DX versions, but I have seen pieces missing on at least one occassion.

That case was fixed by downloading and installing the latest DirectX reditributable file:

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109

(The Web based updater may be adequate, but I've used the full download.)

As far as I know, this will not replace any of the newer DX components, and it will do no harm.

    I hope it helps.

  • Hi ,

    Does the above information help?

This issue can also relate to the video drivers. Please be ensured that you have installed the latest drivers and all the updates. If the issue persists, I suggest to temporarily disable the third party applications or you can perform the Clean Boot to check the results.
