Unable to add a Google Account to Windows 8 (Mail, People, Calendar)

    Question

  • Hi everyone.

I cannot add my google account to Windows 8 Mail App, nor to the People app. When I enter the credentials it tries to login but then it says to check if the username and/or password are correct. I am doing copy and paste so I am sure they are correct.

    The situation is the following:

    • I have a Microsoft account and a Google account
    • Both accounts refer to the same Gmail address: xxxxx@gmail.com
    • I was able to login with the Microsoft account
    • I am not able to connect with the Google account

    Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Hi,

Please check this post. Try to use an application-specific password.

  • instead of selecting the explicit Google icon in Mail setup, try setting it up
as an IMAP account. you need to enable Google mail for imap first. see

    http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=77695

Then use m.google.com as the mail server name.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I am already using an application specific password (I tried also with my account password, just to be sure). No way.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I would like to sync calendars and contacts as well, so using IMAP solves just one part of the problem.

    Thanks.

  • PS: I belive that the problem is that I used a Microsoft account with the same email ID of the Google account I want to add.

  • Hi. I unmarked this as answer because it does not solve the problem. As I said, I am already using an application-specific password. Thanks.

I'm running into the same issue. I am using the same email address for my Windows Live ID as my Google account, and it won't let me add the Google account. Did you ever find out a way around this? I've tried the suggestions listed here to no avail:

  • For us at least, I'm pretty sure this is the reason why

  • Hi,

I have the same problem. I checked by changing my Windows login but it did not solve the problem. There must be another problem.

  • I am also having the same issue. I've tried the solutions mentioned above as well as ensuring I have all Windows updates. I was unable to change my Windows login - the interface said it wasn't an option. I'm a bit confused why this would be an issue on Windows 8 but not Windows Phone 8 - I logged in with my Microsoft/Windows Live account and Google account just fine on Windows Phone 8.

  • I have the exact same problem.  Has anyone been able to find a way to work around this yet?

  • No love here either. I tried App Specific Password and all of that stuff. No dice.
