  • Hi I work as a L2 in Dell Technical Support. Came across your issue. Thought of replying. First of all to let you know Inspiron 6000 is not designed for Windows 7. So you might face some issues later on after installing it. However regarding drivers you need to install chipset drivers first and then audio drivers . You would not find drivers for Windows 7 in support site of Dell. For your reference i am attaching this link which is for testing whether system is designed for windows 7 http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?journalid=7D6D9F35D1434F5BE040AE0AB5E16A7E&docid=364750#1.

Please go through that link and as suggested to step 2 and let me know if it resolves your problem. Also i would like to know which version of Windows 7 you have installed and bit. This would help me find out a compatible driver for your system if available.

  • According to the Dell Support website your sound chip is a Sigmatel STAC 975x and the latest driver listed for Windows XP states it is also for Vista 32-bit.  You can trying installing that driver.  You may have to use the compatibility mode.  Otherwise you will need to contact Dell Tech Support or search the internet for a Sigmatel driver.

  • If you have no luck with the vista 32 driver, I found on some machines recently loaded with windows 7 that the vista 64 bit sound driver was the only one to work successfully..

I used a cd with the files on and set windows searching for it.. seemed to work better that way rather than installing from manual setup.

    Hope this helps ;)

  • You can try installing the sound card driver in the Compatibility Mode and see if it works.
