I am having exactly the same problem under XP sp3. Have tried for days...It surely can't be that difficult Microsoft?
Even some feedback would be a start!

  • Ok, found this and it worked for me . Here are two links below, the second worked as i'm using Asus SoundMax but don't see why it would'nt work for everything else once the driver is updated in the 'device manager' just install the HD sound programs you use.  As for service pack 3 "the rocket scientists from Microsoft somehow forgot to put any support at all for HD Audio in this release....Pretty smart....heh" Sandman.
    Good luck!

  • I have the same laptop and I had this problem as well.

I went to the following site:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-66525

folllowed their step by step instructions in Notes:

    Installed direct X 9 c first
then got UAA high def. installed
and then downloaded the exe file for driver installation.

I had done all this before but without luck, only thing that was missing was direct x installation, so I guess that was the problem in my case.

    It works fine now.

    Hope it helps
    regards,
    Sid
