Location is not available

    Question

  • I had this same problem with Vista Ultimate and now with Windows 7 RC. When I open the User's File folder and try to open some of the sub folders (IE) Application Data, Cookies, Local Settings, Net Hood, PrintHood, Recent, I get a dialogue box that states: Location is not Available at the top of the box and inside the box it states: C:Users\User Files\Application Data is not accessible. Access is denied. Why is this?

  • Hi,

Application Data is not an actual folder, it is a Junction.

A Junction is a shortcut that redirects files and programs to a different location. In fact, the folder is redirect to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming folder.

You also can refer to the following article to understand it:

    Junction Points and Access Denied
