Windows could not parse or process unattend answer file [C:\Windows\Panther\unattend.xml] for pass [auditUser].

    Question

  • Ok i have spent the last 2 weeks trying to figure this out and so far have failed.
I have searced the forums and still have not found a solution

I can get the autounattend.xml to work at the basic level but as soon as i try adding a driver or an application i run into
    the following issues

the error logs are as follows:

    From SETUPERR.LOG

Also note the switches use for this exe file is the ones that are used to do a silent install.

I am at my wits end with this and my deadline is almost at hand for the project. If i cannot get this to work
then we will have to drop useing WDS as an imaging system.

  • Ok Looks like i figured out the whole thing

Thanks to you all for your help

JoeZeppy you pointed me in the right direction on this.

Yes the issue was in part the path the system was looking at for the applications and drivers.
This was down to how the manual said i had to do it. or at least how i read it and beleved the manual says to do it.

All of the above was beeing done useing a config set. (i now know i will not be useing configset again)
When a config set is created it changes the path details i needed to use for installing the applications and drivers
    useing %configsetroot% and %systemsetroot%

Because of this the autounattend was looking at the wrong place for the files.

I did however make the mistake of putting in the location as per the main server hence the D:\path\driver
when i should have been using the \\servername\distrobution share\Filename.exe

So after working for almost 3 weeks on this i have come to find i don't need configset's
also for installing drivers from the inf point of view i also founf the the manual instructions dont work
i had to use the offline pass to get the inf files to install and not the audituser pass

I am still testing this and will update again as to my results. As i dont know if the system will hold my drivers and app when i reseal the system
i have put in the pnp pass that is needed to keep the drivers installed. again i will let you all know if this works.

At least now i can try completing the project soon :)

Thanks again for all the help

  • Here you go

this is the one from the panther folder

    Just to note
I have also tried this as per the step by step guid and even trying to install paint.net it also failes with the same error.
I have also tried changing the location from d:\distro to %systemdrive%

    Thanks

Given that the error indicates a problem parsing the above section, have you considered firing a cmd or bat file that contains the execution string with associated command line arguments? If I had to guess I'd think it was the -s -A -s part... why do you have two identical args? I don't have that .exe to test with to check what ones are available... Try the batch/cmd file trick and see if it works. Make sure you test the batch file manually before running your LTI.

  • Hi Ioamnesia,

Thanks for getting back to me. the switchs i used on that files dont make any diffrence i get the same error with or without them.
I get the same error even useing the paint.net software that s used in the manuals.

I have tried the batch files manualy from the system and that works but that still involes me basicaly doing the install from hand
even when i use it with the answer files.

I beleve the goal here is to have the files be autamated and iunstall drivers and apps without user interaction.
    Am i wrong in this?

    Thanks

  • I've had better luck calling executables and vbscript from a command window

    < Path > cmd /c D:\Distro\$OEM$ Folders\$1\DQ45CB\AUD\AUD6570.exe -s -A -s </ Path >
    Wednesday, July 08, 2009 1:03 PM
  • Also the space in "$OEM$ Folders" may be tripping you up, try enclosing the path in quotes

    < Path > cmd /c "D:\Distro\$OEM$ Folders\$1\DQ45CB\AUD\AUD6570.exe" -s -A -s </ Path >

Searching the web - every instance of an 0x80070003 error is related to some variation of file folder or path not found, so I'd say probably the space in your path may be the problem. Still, I usually use the cmd /c "command" syntax, since a lot of the MS examples use it.

  • Thanks for the reply ZoeZeppy

I have been playing with the files again and tried most of what you have suggested.
I did notice the folder path beeing an issue after you pointed it out to me so went to work on that.
I am still getting the same error.

So i decided to start from scratch (this involved reinstalling Server 2008 and WDS and OPK this time)
I followed all the User Gudes and Step by step guides and still no luck. I will add the 3 files for you to see
This time the setup is done as per the manuals

I did try changed the folders so there was no spaces this didnt work,
I did how ever seem to notice that the files are not beeing copied to the windows install
am i wrong in thinking they are suppose to be copied over?
as it would suggest the PaintNet app should be but is not getting copied.

I know nothing about vbscript so i am unable to figure that bit out. but i beleve this is not a requirement of the WDS
I have done a basic autounattend file and it works fine in regards imaging the system and putting it into audit mode
the issue is only when i try adding an app or a driver through the autounattend.xml useing AIK or OPK

  • That's good. I've used two methods - the unattended install using the offline pass to point to a folder and a captured wim image where I open the WIM and use peimg to inject the drivers into the driver store. I originally started down the audit user path, but I decided it wasn't the wasy to go for rolling out machines.

I've been using the MDT recently, after resisting it for a long time. It's insanely complicated :')
