Another Windows 7 Activation Problem [Error Code 0x8007000D - The data is invalid.]

    Question

  • As stated in the subject, I get an "Error Code 0x800700D - the data is invalid" when I try to activate Windows 7. I have read all of the previous Windows 7 Activation error threads, and don't find anything I haven't tried.

    I have returned to Microsoft and obtained a new key, and used it for the "Change Product Key," with the same result. I copy/pasted the key directly from the MS website, so I know there was no confusion or mistyping of similar characters/numbers.

    I can't recall 100%, but am pretty sure I entered the original key given to me by MS on the download page upon install.
    My clock is set correctly and reporting correctly: July 30, 2009
    Windows is not shutting down or otherwise locking me out, but it does report that I only have 14 days (and counting down) to activate.
    If memory serves, I was first notified on Day 24 that I needed to activate Windows.
    Installed version of Windows says, in the bottom right hand corner: Windows 7 Evaluation copy. Build 7100
    My ISO was downloaded directly from MS.
    I don't have Alcohol 120 or whatever it was or any of the other programs mentioned that conflict with the activation.
    Installed non-Microsoft programs are:
    * Adobe Flash Player
    * Adobe Reader
    * Avira AntiVir
    * Dell Touchpad
    * Filezilla
    * Java 6 Update 14
    * LastPass
    * Mozilla Thunderbird
    In another thread, someone talked about disabling GPO security and telephoning in directly in to MS - I didn't understand what they were talking about, so I have not attempted/performed that suggestion.

    Any thoughts on what I can do to activate Windows 7?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Acorp

    Press the WINKEY+R to bring up the Run dialog box.

    Type  SLUI 4  in the box and press OK.

    This will start the Telephone Activation Wizard.

    Select your country in the drop down menu and click the Next Button.

    Follow the instructions on the screen.

    If the telephone activation fails, stay on the line for a Representative.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank You for testing Windows 7

    You are right!
    After I remove Daemon and restart the computer,  there is no problem again while reactivating.
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Ronnie! I just checked and it still works in Home Premium version! Didn't complete it though -- bought a 3-pack Home Premium upgrade and installed W7 on 2 computers. However, I switched computers (both Dell GX270s) and imported the hard drive, cpu, video card, memory from the Desktop version to the Slim Form Factor one. Yep, it triggered the activation so I may have used my 3rd code although it's really only running on 2 computers. At least I didn't have to do a reinstall -- booted right up .. even the Bios are the same in both computers. Wow, W7 is too smart for me! ;)

    Going to buy a Black Friday Netbook with XP on it, so I will need the info on your post (probably).
