Me too - I have tried the recommended fix (renaming SoftwareDistribution, etc) but no joy.

3 rebuilds - new harddrive (as suggested was hard drive error) - no joy.

Microsoft support on email a week ago, sent them the info, then nothing, no replies since.

Also seeing error Code C80003FA (more than 8024A000).

Someone help please - this is causing us no end of problems.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm having the same issue.  I've reinstalled Vista (HP) from scratch, tried all the suggested renaming of SD, catroot2, etc, resetting ip/winsock stack, etc. etc. I'm working with MS tech support, and they are making lots of suggestions, but still no joy.

How did you guys solve this?

    Thanks,

    John

  • If you have recently changed your Hard Disk Drive you may need a new driver.

    This worked for me see: h t t p : / / w w w . r u p e r t . i d . a u / t u t o r i a l s / e r r o r /

    for details.

PS I had to place spaces between each character in the above URL because I can't post links in this form yet.
