Windows 7 + Telnet

    Question

  • I was trying to test some open ports on Windows 7 64-bit with telnet and NMAP I needed to see if 7777 was open for a game. I disabled my Firewall first to check and see if it could talk to the port. Neither telnet nor NMAP could find that port open with the firewall off. Any chance someone can help me figure out why nothing is talking to those ports?

  • Did you download the latest NMAP and install it in Windows 7?

    Download the Free Nmap Security Scanner for Linux-MAC-UNIX or Windows

    Also please ensure that Telnet is enabled.

    1. Click Start->Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Programs And Features.
    3. Choose Turn Windows features on or off.
    4. Check Telnet Client and Telnet Server.
    5. Click OK.

  • Telnet is on correctly, my firewall has an exception but just to be safe I turned it off and still nothing. I don't think we were using the updated version of NMAP but telnet still doesn't work. A little more info, NMAP does find port 80, but we cannot telnet into that port either.
