Windows 8 screen problems when using KVM

    Question

  • Hi

Bought a Windows 8 PC yesterday (Acer aspire X XC100). When I plug my screen in, all is fine. However, when I add the KVM switch (to switch between the new PC and an older one), the Windows 8 computer keeps flashing to a black screen and changing the screen resolution.

    KVM is Belkin flip - f1dg102u = http://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F1DG102U

If I unplug the KVM, it's all fine. But I need the KVM so I can flick between computers.

Any ideas what I can try? Or do I need to buy a new KVM? If so, any recommendations?

    Thanks!

  • Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 check the EDID feeding from your monitor constantly as long as the system is on.

Because the KVM switch you have does not support Full-time EDID/DDC feeding.

solutions (either one can solve this issue).

    1. add an EDID emulator between your KVM switch and the Windows 8 system.

    2. Change the KVM switch to switch support Full-time EDID/DDC feeding.
