  • Ok. Go into device manager, right click the device, select properties, select update driver, select let me choose, and point it the location of the driver file you downloaded.

  • Hi Ken,
If you still have your XP driver disk, you can install the audio driver in compatibility mode. Method here. If you do not, run windows update or the hardware troubleshooter from the action center.

Click Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound and select a playback device. Not one there? You need drivers.

You'll have to identify the audio card to find drivers. Do you remember or have the specifications for the computer?

  • click Start>type devmgmt.msc in the search box and select device manager from the programs listed.

In device manager expand sound, video and game controllers

You should see a device with an ! in yellow-right click on it-select properties>selct the details tab>in drop down box select hardware id

copy the top line and post it here.

  • There's no others at Microsoft. Are you using the worked in a previous version method after it detects?

The web search for that device is full of users from Advent that had no drivers and could find one for XP. You may end up getting a PCI audio card. I take it Advent is no longer around?

  • Try it both ways. You are using a workaround to get a device functioning.

  • email Cmedia   http://chinese.cmedia.com.tw/contact_sales.html

Ask for a driver for that device and copy the hardware id into the email.

I don't know what else to do. Find a cheap PCI sound card at least Vista compatible.

    Compatible hardware here.

Save that driver on removable media somewhere.

    Enjoy Windows 7.

    Best Regards.
