Disable automount in windows XP ?

    Question

  • Hi,

How you execute the disable function of automount through mountvol in windows XP? eg do not want an automatically detect a mass storage.

The mountvol for XP is different from windows 7 where win7 has the mountvol /n. Any idea how to do that in windows XP? Windows XP do not have the automount (disable/enable) function in dispart for Windows Xp as well.

    Pls help. Thanks.

  • XP disable automount is not possible
Although you can go here: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MountMgr\ NoAutoMount   (dword)
By doing so, your Windows system drive will not mount either, effectively stopping Windows loading again

Only one way around it on XP and that is to disable USB hardware (which obviously means anything connected via USB won't work)

The answer is: No , not in XP
