Windows 7 doesn't play video of MJPG AVI

    Question

  • I have standard installation of Win7 RC1 and when I try to play a AVI from my Ricoh Caplio R7 I only hear sound but see no video.
MediaInfo revealed it's a MJPG video and ADPCM sound.

  • JanOonk,

It would appear that Windows Media Player 12 does not contain the necessary codecs for MJPG video. This may be addressed in a future update. In the meantime, you could try installing a third-party video decoding package, like ffdshow , and playing your AVI file in a third-party media player (as Windows Media Player 12 will not use external codecs as of the RC).

  • Agree with axfelix, you need a vedio codec.
