Is there a version of the xp virtual machine(the one that goes with the windows 7rc that you can download) that does not require a processor with hardware virtualization. I have windows 7 rc 64bit ultimate version installed.
It's not the virtual machine that matters, it's the virtualization engine. Windows 7 VPC requires hardware vitualization. If you uninstall Windows 7 VPC, you can install either Virtual PC 2007 SP1 or Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1. That's the workaround for people who don't have hardware virtualization.
If you use VPC 2007 SP1 or VIrtual Server 2005 R2 SP1, you'll want to use the virtual machine additions that come with those products instead of the integration components that come with Windows 7 VPC. I haven't tried uninstalling integration components from a vm running under VPC 2007 or Virtual Server, so I don't know how that will work.
