the action can't be completed because the file is open in windows explorer

    Question

  • This error message is driving me crazy "the action can't be completed because the file is open in windows explorer"

i downloaded anime the format is mkv, iv downloaded many mkv anime series, just this one won't let me delete it, iv restarted my computer, same error, i even tried safe mode but when i try to delete it comes up preparing to delete and the status is calculating, i let that wait for 2 mins, nothing happened.

So why can't i just delete this one single file.

    really need help, thanks.

  • Here are two little programs that should delete your file. Read, download and run the free KillBox, it doesn’t need installing, here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php

    Alternatively, LockHunter, 32-bit or 64-bit here http://lockhunter.com/index.htm

  • yea thanks for that, i was reading up on here and people had similar issues. so i got he lock hunter program, and deleted them for me. great program :D

i was using before East Tec Eraser, but its annoying having to restart the computer all the time just to delete the files, while lock hunter does it without restart. so i guess thats ok.

but i still would like to know why is window explorer.exe interfering with this mkv file???

never had this problem on XP, just on windows 7 iv experience it.

would like more info on it tho.

    thanks anyways :D
