Path Too Long Error

    Question

  • I get the path too long error when deleting a folder. I have tried all the tools (robocopy crashes) and looked on google for hours. Using total commander I have found that there are over 40k nested folders:  large image

What is the best way to get rid of this? This was caused by the Sikuli IDE

  • OK, here you go:

    1. Log on under an admin account.
    2. Click the Start globe.
    3. Type the three letters cmd into the Search box.
    4. Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter
    5. Click "Run as Administrator".
    6. Type the following commands exactly and press Enter after each:

        cd  /d  c:\a
        for  /L  %a  in  (1,1,30)  do  cd  functions.sikuli
(ignore the error message you get at the end)
        subst  X:  "%cd%"
        rd  /s  /q  X:\functions.sikuli
(this will delete the excessively long element of the path)
        subst  X:  /d
        cd  \a
        rd  /s  /q  functions.sikuli

Warning: The above steps will permanently delete the folder tree at the end of the "rd" command.

  • I highly recommend "Long Path Tool"  useful in situations where you see these error
messages: Cannot read from source file or disk, there has been a sharing violation, cannot delete file or folder, the file name you specified is not valid or too long, the source or destination file may be in use and many other file managing errors .
