Access denied-Requires permission from "Everyone"

    Question

  • Hi,

I am using windows 7 ultimate now and my friend copied a game file for me to a pendrive.

I am the only Admin of my pc and there is no other user accounts.

When I try to copy all the game files from pendrive to my desktop, All of the files are succesfully copied except an Application(.exe) file.

It shows up a notification that "You need permission to perform this action. You need permissions from Everyone to make changes to this file." when i try to copy it from pendrive to desktop or anywhere on my computer.

I tried to take ownership from the security tabs but there was no security tabs.

When i try to "run as administrator", it wrote "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access this item".

Is there anyway to solve this?

Answers

  • Hi,

Firstly, please let us know the following:

    1. Is the .exe file used to run the games?

    2. Would you please let us the name of the game?

    3. If there are other .exe files in the pen drive, can you copy them?

Meanwhile, based on my research, please try the following:

    1. Turn User Account Control off and test the issue again.

    2. Use takeown command to take owner of the file and see how it works.

    3. Boot into Clean Boot Mode and test the issue again.

If issue persists, please check if your friends can send you the file directly.

    Hope this helps.
