Windows 7 System Image VHD Corrupt

    Question

  • My disk reported issues so I created a System Image of the drive using Windows 7 - creating the WindowsImageBackup folder and associated files.  The disk failed soon after. When putting a new disk in the machine I installed Windows 8.1.  I have tried to load the VHD via device manager, and via third party tools.  Some reported messages indicate that the MFT is corrupt; other tools cause a BSOD.  Chkdsk will not run on the mounted VHD, with errors that the corrupt image cannot be accessed.  I've tried to inspect the contents with Gizmo, gdb, etc. to no avail.

My question is if Windows 8.1 has some issue mounting and viewing files within such a windows 7 system image. And also, what tools or methods should be used to fix the MFT corruption issue?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

If the vhd is corrupted, Windows cannot recover MFT, we are unable to recover the disk, if this data is important for you,  I suggest you data recovery service.
