Problems shutting down Windows 8

    Question

  • I'm having a really frustrating time with Windows 8. It simply won't shut down. I press Settings then Shut Down and the laptop proceeds to turn off but just sticks on the Blue Shutting Down Screen. I left overnight last time and it was still doing it when I got up!

I did a bit of searching on Google and found a page relating to Internet Temp Files and cache etc and it stated delete this first before turning off and it works but surely I havn't got to do this everytime before I turn off the laptop?

    Anybody experiencing the same problem?

  • Try to disable the new fast startup:

Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

    Does this solve the issue?

  • I press Settings then Shut Down

Instead try pressing Shift while clicking Restart.   You should be able to request a real Shut down later.

BTW this would be equivalent to  Run...  (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)

    shutdown.exe  /r  /o

Other shutdown  scenarios are possible that way, e.g. involving the  /t  switch.

Sounds like what you are getting will be the equivalent of

    shutdown.exe  /s  /hybrid

    Good luck
