How to delete registry entries from "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ins taller\UserData\S-1-5-18"

    Question

  • Hi everybody can you please solve my problem. We have developed two driver installation packages MSI and EXE package using installsheild, the problem MSI package will create some components under user data "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ins taller\UserData\S-1-5-18" normal uninstallation will delete the entries. But as per customer we have a case where we have to install EXE package over MSI package. EXE package has to delete all entries that are created by MSI package, we have an application which will delete all entries created by MSI. but the entries under userdata more and that two in jumbled GUID.

    1) It will cause any problem if userdata components not removed?

    2) Is there anyway to delete components?

  • i cant tell you if the userdata components aren't removed, i guess its something that you will just have to try and see what happens. For the second question ( i might not have understood right ) you want to delete those registry entries. Create a .reg file and make your .exe file run that first before it installs the driver. here is a link that may help you with the .reg file if you need it.
