Inable to install 3DS Max 2009

    Question

  • I've tried to install 3DS Max 2009, and it just fails everytime I try to use the autolaunch...

I'm using Winver 7000 on this machine:
    Intel Q6600 2.4GHz
    nVidia 8800GTS 512
    4GB 800MHz RAM

The error message I get is "The program can't start because SetupUi.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem". And, well, the program isn't installed. Trying to just launch the setup from the dvd. I've checked, and the SetupUi exists and is there =/

I've tried changing compatibility mode to Vista, and still get the same problem.

  • Autodesk 3DS Max 2009 will definitely install and run under Windows 7 (both 32 and 64bit).  If you are having trouble with the installer, you may have bad media.  If this is a legal and legitimate purchase, Autodesk will bend over backwards to accommodate with replacement media if necessary.

However, you can try to install by directly using the .msi files.  Open up the DVD and navigate to the main folder.  Go to either the 32bit or 64bit folder—which ever applies or you want—and double-click the 3dsMax2009-xx-bit.msi file to install.

  • 3DS Max Design 2009 (x64) successfully installs under the x64 version of Win7 and from AutoPlay assuming you allow access through UAC.

Have you checked that the DVD will install under WinXP or Vista, as you may have defective media?

There have also been a number of media releases by Autodesk as Max has been patched; my version of the DVD is dated 13/03/2008.
