  • Hi,

In almost all cases, these messages are posted because of hardware problems. The source may be the controller or (more probably) a device that is attached to the controller. The hardware problem can be poor cabling, incorrect termination or transfer rate settings, slow device relinquishment of the SCSI bus, a faulty device, or in rare cases, a poorly written device driver.

Please go to Device Manger to update the IDE controller driver to check the result.

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0

JUST MENTION WHICH OS YOU ARE USING>>>>>> Check the following areas as a preliminary test:

    1. Check whether the issue persist on  in safe mode. I disabled all services and startup items and still had the computer locking up randomly after login. Never could get the issue to happen in safe mode. It turns out that the HD had a bad sector which happened to be holding the pagefile! Simply performed a scandisk to get the machine operational, performed a backup and then replaced the HD.

2.This error may be received if you have 2 cd-roms on the same ide channel with incorrect jumper settings.  In my scenario, the cd-rom jumpers were set to cable select however the IDE cable did not support it.  Configuring the jumpers to master/slave corrected this error.

3.In one case, a computer was running Windows 2000 Professional SP4 that was configured to boot from a SCSI drive. An IDE drive was temporarily added in order to perform some work on it. When the computer was started this event was repeated four times and then followed by EventID 9 from source atapi. Windows showed the disk as normal but Partition Magic 8.0 showed it as "BAD". Remove or replace the faulty hard drive.....

I had loaded the service pack1 for Windows 7 pro. But that was almost a year ago. I don't think this is the trouble.

My OS is Windows 7 Pro. I will try safe mode and let you know. I do not have any issuer with my CD player, all jumper settings are right. No SCSI on this computer. Everything is working fine. This did not generate a Error code.  Just the  picture size is worng on the monitor.

  • I did this and it made no difference. I updated the driver and it had the most current one. I'm all most to the point of disconnecting the monitor and letting it reinstall.

  • Hi my system went through with the same problem (ATAPI Error Event ID 11).
I googled for the same and applied all tips and tricks and it took me around 5 days to come to a solution.

    I tried :
    1) Hard disk diagnose (error checking under properties>tools of selected drive)
    2) Disk Defragmentation
    3) tried changing hard disk
But did not get any success.

Success : I installed "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver" and after that i didnt get any such error and sytem performance increased to a gtreat level.

Note : Though the above two steps didn't solve my problems but you can go for these steps as this will increase performance of you system,
Also Hard Disk diagnose may take one full night so be patient.

    Hope it helps..
