computer won´t show connected usb devices

    Question

  • hey there!
when i connect e.g. my mp3 or any usb stick to my computer, windows7 detects it and installs the necessary software. however, the device does not show up in the explorer/computer site. it does show up in the hardware and printer section though. i can´t change the device letter of the connected device, either.

    any help?

    thanks in advance

    UPDATE:

Thank you so much Nina for your help and patience!

"I've got it fixed now, after reading this: http://forum.freecompromo.com/viewtopic.php?t=181

    The solution:

    step 1!
Go into C:\ and create a folder called usbdriver

    step 2!
Go into C:\WINDOWS\INF and copy the whole contents

    step 3!
    COPY ALL THAT INTO C:\usbdriver

    step 4!
THEN when your asked to look for the driver! and vista cannot find it POINT IT TO THAT FOLDER C:\USBDRIVER and click ok.

Looks like it was a bug from Vista. Thanks Nano Warp and NooNoo for your suggestions"

  • Hi, you said that the issue occurs on any USB stick, can you tell the detailed models?

Please check the article bellow. It describes what happens after inserting a device in Win7.

I have a SONY MP3 NWZ-B133. When checking it on my side, the MP3 also shows in the hardware and printer section and I cannot change the device letter. I cannot see it in Windows Explorer either. It seems that this is by design in Win 7.

  • hey!
sorry for my really late reply! thank you for your work. However, the problem remains unresolved. I bought an Ipod now and even with this device it doesn´t work. It does install the drivers, but I am not able to get access to the device. It is the same with USB-Sticks. As I´ve said, the devices show up in the devices and printers section.
    Any help?

    Thanks
