Can't turn on windows firewall - For your security, some settings are managed by your system administrator.

    Question

  • 1. In Windows 7, when I go to windows firewall, I get a message saying "For your security, some settings are managed by your system administrator. "

    2. When I click on "use recommended settings" I get an error saying: Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings because they are controlled by Group Policy. Contact your system administrator if you need to change the settings"

  • Hi,

If your computer is in a domain environment, please contact your IT staff to fix the issue. It seems you don't have permission to change Windows Firewall configurations.

  • Niki, this is a personal laptop which only uses local accounts. I noticed this problem after Microsoft Security Essentials complained about a virus.

    Any other suggestions are welcome.
