Uninstalling IE9

    Question

  • I want to uninstall IE9 and reinstall and older version, but I can't find any means of doing this. The built-in uninstaller does NOT list the program, nor can any 3rd-party uninstaller find it.

  • First step: ensure you have another browser (I.E. Chrome)

    open up "uninstall a program" and choose "turn windows features on and off"

    from the list uninstall internet explorer

    Open the second browser

    search for the download of IE8 or 7 (whichever one you wish to get)

    and download

    this worked for me when I had a machine that came packed with IE8 and needed to downgrade to IE7, let me know how you get on!

  • I already have the browsers downloaded. I just need to know how to get rid of IE9 in order to roll back to an older IE.

  • That didn't work. It won't let me install any other IE except for 9. It keeps saying that this browser is not supported by my OS.

    1. Log on to the computer as an administrator.
    2. Close all Internet Explorer browser windows.
    3. Start Notepad.
    4. Copy and paste the following HTML text into Notepad to convert the HTML text into plain text:

      FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"
    5. Click Start and then click Run.
    6. Copy and then paste (or type) the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:
      cmd
    7. Copy the text from Notepad, paste the text into the Command Prompt window at a command prompt, and then press Enter.
    8. After the command runs, and the Command Prompt window returns, repeat step 7, and then go to step 9.
    9. Restart the computer to complete uninstallation of Internet Explorer 9.

  • One more method

    1. click your windows button and type view updates in the search box
    2. once the results appear, click view installed updates

      Don't want to search?
      Press Win+R and paste in the following:
      C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:::{d450a8a1-9568-45c7-9c0e-b4f9fb4537bd}
      then press Enter.
    3. wait for the Uninstall an update screen to load completely
    4. scroll through the list until you find Windows Internet Explorer 9
    5. click once to highlight IE9, then click the Uninstall button (or right-click and uninstall)
    6. confirm that you want to uninstall (click yes)

  • I used both methods, but did not work. The following message appeared on the popup window,

    "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were unsuccessfully uninstalled."

    Any other methods, please suggest.
