Windows 8 Installation has failed

    General discussion

  • I purchased the $39.99 Windows 8 Pro upgrade as well.  When attempting to upgrade my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit computer, it did a check for updates, but after doing that, it stated "Windows 8 installation has failed."  When I re-opened the install, I initially told it to resume where it left off.  When doing that, it checks for updates.  After the updates though, it is stating the following "Something happened" "We couldn't find the License Agreement."

I looked in the "C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther" directory for the setuperr.txt file.  This is what it contained:

2012-11-01 13:12:56, Error      [0x0a4024] CONX   Failed to read EULA file from Install.WIM. (hr = 0x80070005)[gle=0x00000005]
2012-11-01 13:12:57, Error      [0x0a4024] CONX   EULA file not found: C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\TempSetupEula.RTF[gle=0x00000002]

I am not finding an Install.WIM file on my hard drive.  Nor is there a TempSetupEula.RTF file in the Panther directory.

Please let me know what I need to do to get past this issue.  Thank you in advance.

  • Thanks for the link to ...Sources\Panther.  The "Install failed.  Tough luck, Dude! Bye!" window withough _any_ info is very annoying.  Mine is:

And, yeah, I've got dozens of gig free so I don't know where the "failed to create shortcut" comes in.  Ran Update Assistant, uninstalled Security Essentials -- yeah, yeah.
