Disable windows key in windows 8?

Answers

  • Just checked, after merging the reg and rebooting, it disabled my windows key, hitting it did nothing.

Here are the links to the .reg files, should be easier for you to right click > 'merge' them.

To re-enable, merge this and reboot.

  • According to these articles, it should just be a registry setting in Windows 7 or earlier.  If you can wait a while I will test in my VM and be sure it is W8 safe, otherwise if you are in a hurry, just back up your Keyboard Layout Registry Key before you apply the settings in case it is not W8 compatible.  Probably needs a reboot before taking effect.

    Disables Win Key

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
    "Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,00,00,5b,e0,00,00,5c,e0,00,00,00,00
    Re-enable it.
